![]() Youll want an interface that has enough inputs to plug in the mics youre using, or a mixer to plug the mics into and run the output to the interface. If you cannot make Windows play the MIDI signal from the drums, I don’t think direct MIDI recording is that hard. You can record through audacity with just a couple of mics on an acoustic set. See Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows. In Audacity, recording someones voice or an instrument is as simple as selecting the correct microphone as an input, then clicking the Record button in the top-left corner. Then you would record from the USB interface into Audacity.Īlso, if you plug the USB MIDI cable into the computer can you hear the sound you are making? If yes, you can record the computer playback. If you don’t have a suitable audio input on the computer you can buy a decent USB interface for about 30 EUR to take the output from the drums. Press the record button in your audio software. Arm the tracks for recording, usually press the red button next to the audio track. audio track 1 to channel 1 on your mixer, audio track 2 to channel 2, etc. Look in your computer manual to find out. Set the channel inputs on your audio tracks, e.g. Does your computer have a blue line-in input separate from the microphone input? If yes, just connect either drums output to the line-in and set Audacity to record from the line-in.Įven if you only have a microphone input, it might be a compatible port that lets you record stereo, but those are not good quality ports. Your kit has 1/4" main left and right outputs and 1/8" stereo headphone outputs. The MIDI to key presses translator won’t help you record the drums. But you may have to pay a lot for a host or plugin that is good enough to do that well. Then such a host might be able to provide an audio output that Audacity can record form. ![]() Im using the aux out analog to the aux in mic port in the pc. Downloaded audacity, everything was good to go. I wanted to record some stuff to send to family members etc, which is one of the advantages of having the electric kit. Some VST plugins can work with MIDI input if put in a “host” application that can accept the plugins. So avid drummer here, just got some electric drums so i can practice in the apartment. With a mixing desk going into a stereo input, you can often pan some microphones to the left, and others to the right, then split the stereo track after you have recorded it into 2 separate mono tracks.VST is a plugin format. You can record through audacity with just a couple of mics on an acoustic set. These can be bought very cheaply - I have a Behringer UCA-202 which cost about £20 and the sound quality is very good. I use an XR18 to multitrack record my drums. But when it comes down to how you actually want to record your drums, a few options open up. Unfortunately most laptops (except Macs) do not have Line inputs, therefore an external (USB) line input is invaluable. Drums and Drummers come from a wide spectrum of people, but anyone who uses an electric kit has done so under a very simple premise- Mic-ing acoustic drums is not fun. “Line inputs” are far better - better quality, lower noise, distort less easily and stereo. If you do this though, think about the musical arrangement - drummers only have 2 hands and 2 feet at most, so you would not want snare + ride + toms at the same time.Īlso note that microphone inputs are not ideal for connecting high level sources such as the output of a mixing desk - most computer microphone sockets are low quality, noisy, too sensitive, distort easily and often mono. You can however record a couple of drums, say kick and snare, and then go over and record other drums, say the toms, and then over again and put in the cymbals. So if i use an auxilary cable through the record out on the mixer through the mic input on the computer will the record the 6 mics as one track It was just him and Mary in the kitchen peeling potatoes. Les Paul did all those guitar effects by multiple recordings one over the other. ![]() Record all the rhythm tracks and then play them back into headphones while you record each guitar and then finally vocals. First they shoot all of his lines and then they perform the scene again and shoot all of hers. The problem is that I’m trying to record in audacity, which apparently does not record MIDI. They shoot most movies with only one movie camera. Recording Electric drums into Audacity I have an electric drum kit that I am running into my PC via usb cable. That’s not deadly even if you are money free. Without adding a bunch of electronics (like a mixing desk or field mixer) you will only be able to connect one microphone to the computer. Connection in the laptop computer beside the usb connection? Can you tell which connection that was? Does it say Mic-In anywhere or have the symbol of a microphone? It is not as difficult to record electronic drums as you think.
