I like everything about this computer from a hardware and performance perspective but good lord wrestling with the software/firmware has been a ride. Spent like a year having to restart my computer if I wanted to change the brightness at all. I had to uninstall and reinstall both monitors in Windows Device Manager, uninstall and reinstall my USB-C hub (which I have my external monitor plugged into), fiddle with settings in nvidia control panel, and restart like 3 times before all the sudden everything clicked and my PC is normal again. Then it wouldn't send anything to my external monitor unless I was duplicating the displays. It also saw my laptop display as capable of only 1 hz (!!!) refresh so it was like using an e-ink screen or some shit. It reset all the nvidia control panel settings. It was a sketchy process that made me feel like my computer was fucked for about 45 minutes. Just wanted to add my experience to this helpful thread.īios update fixed the brightness problem for me. But yeah, if the old driver is fine for your current needs, I'd just stay there. If you need to upgrade your card for gaming, I'd look into PangoBright. Obviously not as good as just having the fucking toggle work. I can pick and choose which monitors to dim. It's lightweight and works well with my multiple monitor setup. Flux wasn't able to handle multiple screens independently, but I found something called PangoBright: was recommended in another Reddit thread. I've tried some third party screen dimmers/modifiers. However, with the slim 7's we have to manually restart the computer each time we go in and out of hybrid mode - I don't want to leave it on when I'm gaming because it apparently decreases performance.
